How to Use Smart Columns to Copy monday.com Mirror Column to a Native monday.com Column

Sync mirror data into native columns for better workflows, automation, and reporting.

Working with mirrored columns in monday.com is great for referencing data across boards—but not all features, automations, or integrations work with mirror columns. If you need mirrored data available in a native format (like numbers, dates, or statuses), doing it manually is tedious and error-prone.

Why It Matters

Keeping mirror column data in sync with a native column ensures you can run formulas, sort, filter, and automate without limitations. It eliminates double work and increases confidence in your reports and workflows.

Real-Life Use Cases

  • Project Management: Sync due dates or owners from a master board into your team’s viewable columns
  • Reporting: Use formulas or dashboards that don’t support mirror columns
  • Automation: Trigger actions based on mirrored data—only possible with native columns
  • Audit trails: Create a permanent log of synced info

What This Smart Column Does

This Smart Column detects changes in a mirror column and copies the value into a native monday.com column. The copied data stays current automatically—no formulas, no integrations, no delays.

Step 5: Set the Mirror Trigger

Decide when the copy action should run automatically:

  • Item is created – Mirror will sync on new item creation
  • Column is changed – Updates when a specific column changes
  • Item is moved to any group – Useful for workflows with stage-based boards
  • Status is changed to a specific value – Targeted condition for copying

Step 6: Save Your Settings

Once set, click Save. Your Smart Mirror column will now automatically copy data from a mirrored column into your selected native field—no manual intervention required.
